Yaum ul Ashura

December 7, 2011

The Day of Ashura is on the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and marks the climax of the Remembrance of Muharram. It is commemorated as a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali (RA), the grandson of prophet Muhammad (SA) at the Battle of Karbala on 10 Muharram in the year 61 AH. According to Muslim tradition, Muhammad (SA) fasted on this day and asked other people to fast.

Khwaja Anas Nasarullah :Today is 10th of Muharram, Ashura, the day Musa (AS) and the children of Israel were saved from the bloody hands of pharoah. Many Muslims are fasting today around the world and praising God, the all merciful.

Saiyed Shahbazi: Fakhre Imamat Aap Hai, Shahe Karamat Aap hai, Aap ki Zaat Pak par, Lakhon Salam Ya Hussain (alihe salam)

Assalamu alaikum.Another misconception in the community is that we fast the day of Ashura because of the death of the prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam’s grandson. Well, the prophet could not have fasted because of it since his grandson died after him. We fast because Musa alaihi salaam was saved from the firaun on this day. The jews fasted because of this but the prophet s.a.w said , we have more right to Musa a.s than they do, so we fast for two days 9/10 or 10/11 of muharram, to be different from the jews.
