A two-day cultural programme titled Amar Maner Majhe Je Gaan Baje began at Ahsan Manzil in Dhaka on Friday, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.
Pratipalak Society for Culture and Science and Pratyay Srijansheel Sangathan jointly organised the event. Various artistes and troupes presented songs, dances, poems and a theatre production on the royal stairs of the heritage site opposite the River Buriganga.
The event began with chorus renditions on popular Tagore songs including Akash bhara surya tara and Pagla hawar badal diney by artistes of Pratipalak, Prtyay and cultural organisation Mahiruha.
Eminent Tagore singer Ajit Roy inaugurated the event and the museum director general Prakash Chandra Das delivered welcome speech. The organisers honoured popular Tagore singer Sadi Muhammad and Papiya Sarwar with Kabiguru Sammanana Award. Ajit Roy handed over the crests. ….Ministry of welfare secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas presented a speech on Tagore’s works and life. Twenty child performers of Chintak troupe from Gaibandha district staged dance drama on Tagore poem Birpurush. Shoma Giri directed the production while Sajal, Sushmita, Swarna, Shaheen and Roman played lead characters of the play….
