The staggered shopping schedules set for the capital will be in force from next Friday beginning from the older parts of the city.
The government took the decision to enforce a one-and-a-half-day weekly holiday for the shops and city markets and divided the capital into seven zones for successful implementation of the new timing for the city’s markets and shops, in an effort to alleviate the nagging traffic congestion.
Aminul Islam, chief inspector of the department for factories and establishments, told the FE: “We will begin the new holiday schedule from zone-1 covering the areas of older parts of Dhaka city.”Zone-1 covers the areas of Ahsan Manzil among others.
The markets and shopping malls under zone-1 includes Islampur wholesale market, and Begum Bazar wholesale market .
