RashedK.M. Rashed son of Khwaja Abdul Halim and Mahejabeen Begum departed Dhaka on March 1976 to settle down in Lund, Sweden. He is now a father of four -Sabina, Sadek, Sofia and Sakina and married to Farmeen Shahed.
Love for Dhaka brought him back home in 1982 and since then he has been visiting Nawabbari frequently. On every visit to Dhaka he captured glimpse of Talab Kenar.
The website team has collected couple of his video recordings and compiled them into five parts. Part four of these series is the earliest ever recorded video of Talaab Kenar (1989). These videos are captured from the western side of the Nawabbari pond and spans from 1896 through 1998.
He has captured little but interesting things through his lens as making of bhapa pitha, rolling Talab Ka Tom, migratory birds gliding over Gol Talab, rozdar’s hurry in Ramadan, Kaseeda , ferriwala (hawker), band group performing on makeshift stage celebrating independence day at night, dome of Ahsan Manzil and specially people relaxing in the afternoon hours.
Even twenty years after we can reinvent the beauty of ever changing Talab Kenar- the calmness of the talab and the fresh and crisp air surrounding it. These videos will relax you and take you to a nostalgic dream world that we left behind. Din Jay Kotha Thake….

Many many thanks to Rashed bhai for taking the video. Thanks Anas for editing it with a beutiful heart aching song from Jagjit and Chitra….indeed it bring back the old memory growing up in Talab Kenar…this is exactly the nawabbari i have left behind and never found upon visit…..
Migrating is the hardest part of a human life. I can attest to that!
Lagtaa nahin hai jee mera, ujade dayaar mein
kis ki bani hai aalam-e-naa-paayedaar mein
Keh don in hasraton se – kahin aur jaa basen
itni jagah kahaan hai, dil e daag daar mein
umr e daraaz maang kar laaye the chaar din
do aarzu mein kat gaye, do intezaar mein
din zindagi ke khatam hue, shaam ho gayi
phaila ke pair soyenge kunj e mazaar mein
Kitna hai badnaseeb zaffar, dafan ke liye
do gaz zameen mil na saki, ku e yaar mein
It’s awesome refresh our heart and mind .Most of the time spend in Talab kinar play hockey, Badminton, Cricket and lot of fun and Adda. We never can get back no way.
I remember One Gajal, Yea dowlat vi lailo Yea sowrat vi lailo Muchko meri bachpan lowtado.
Thanks Anas bhai and who did video very good job
