Obituary: Raffat Alam

RAFAT ALAM, lovingly known as Riffi, wife of the late Syed Fayaz Alam, passed away in Karachi on Wednesday 9th May 2007, at the home of her brother, Samee-ul-Hasan and sister-in-law, Anwar. She was burried at the Gizri Graveyard, Defence Housing Authority. May her soul rest in eternal heavenly peace.She leaves behind two sons – Syed Ayyad Alam in Canada, and Syed Hisham Alam in the U.S.A., her younger brother,  Aziz-ul-Hassan in Canada, a sister, Rehana Kamal in Germany and many relations and friends, including members of the Dhaka Nawab Family to mourn her loss.Riffi was the eldest daughter of the late Dr. Mahmood Hasan and (Mrs.) Iffat Feroza Hasan. Dr. Hasan was a former Vice Chancellor of the Dhaka University, and was among the first members of the faculty when the University was established in 1920. He spent all his life in Dhaka until shortly before his death. Both he and Mrs. Hasan were well known among members of the Dhaka Nawab Family.

Riffi was married to Syed Faiyaz Alam, son of Syed Sahib-e-Alam (Kaloo Chacha). His sister, Sajeda, lives in Scarborough, Toronto, Canada.
