After Pakistan beat MCC, Pakistan’s Governer General Khwaja Nazimuddin (with raised hand in the photo) called Fazal Mahmood (Right in the photo) and Abdul Hafeez Kardar (2nd from the Left in the photo) next to him. He held their hands and said ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ (long live Pakistan). The jubilant 20000 strong Karachi crowd also joined in and soon the whole ground was shouting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’

Father’s Day

June 18, 2009

The Snowflake
Before I melt,
Come, look at me!
This lovely icy filigree!
Of a great forest
In one night
I make a wilderness
Of white:
By skyey cold
Of crystals made,
All softly, on
Your finger laid,
I pause, that you
My beauty see:
Breathe, and I vanish
Instantly.

~ This poem is what I feel God had to say when he made a Father for the first time. He had no words to describe the beauty and the whilst of being a mother’s companion, who is by the way no less than a mother in any way. With his firm and bold personality, he helps support the family with his strength. A father is the pillar of the house. Without the pillar, a house has no base to be formed. Thus, without a father, how can a house be complete? A mother gives all the love and care to build the interior of the house, while the father helps support it with his foundations.

On this day I just want to wish all the Father’s of the world “A Very Happy Father’s Day” … I hope with all my heart that you are always their for your wife and children, as they are for you. God bless all of you and have a wonderful day to celebrate with your loved ones. However, as we are from Nawab Bari, for us Father’s Day is everyday, but this is still a good day to celebrate to show how much we really honor, love, and respect our father’s.

Lots of love,
To all the father’s of the world~

Ahsan Manzil through lens

June 14, 2009

Edited By Anas Khwaja
When was the first time Ahsan Manzil was caught on a movie recording camera? The shooting of the Last Kiss or Sumumari did not take place in or around Ahsan Manzil. Later on in the sixties three movies from Dhaka either were shooted in or around Ahsan Manzil or had scenes with Ahsan Manzil in the background. The movies are discussed below.

Naachghar (1963) Cast: Shabnum, Mustafa, Nasima Khan, Abdul Ali Lalu, Saifuddin Ahmed. This was directed by Abdul Jabbar Khan who had earlier got a diploma from Ahsanullah Engineering School in 1941. Music director was Dhir Ali Miah. The negative of the flop film is either lost or destroyed.

Shooting of a dance sequence inside Nachghaar of Ahsan Manzil took place. K.M. Halim a prominent family member hosted the crew members with Naasta Paani ,fan etc.

Shaheed Titu Mir (1968) :Historical Film directed by Ibne Mijan

Couple of scenes were shooted near Astabal (stable) situated on the southern edge of the Ahsan Manzil palace, presently the Municipal Market. Sets for Killa were erected with bamboo. With late night shootings couple of young Nawabbarian’s got a first time chance in the role of extra artists.China Man (Khwaja Afsaruddin) was riding horses in couple of scenes.

Chakori (1967) This film was released on March 23, 1967 on Eid-ul-Azha Day in Dacca (Dhaka), East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Distributors in West Pakistan were not interested to release this Dacca made film in Karachi or Lahore circuits due to poor reports of new comers Nadeem and Shabana. But after success in Dacca, this film was released on May 19, 1967 in Karachi. First few days film business was very bad but then local boy Nadeem became the hero of cinegoers in Karachi and this film celebrated platinum jubilee – the only second platinum jubilee Urdu film in Pakistan and a new success record for a new pair. (thanks to Mr. Aqeel Abbas Jafri, Karachi).

Actors: Shabana, Nadeem, Mirza Shahi, Mustafa… Producer: Mustafiz, Director: Ehtasham, Music: Robin Ghosh, Singers: Firdousi Begum, Ahmad Rusdhi, Mujeeb Alam and Nadeem.

The song “Pyaray Pyaray Yaar Hamaray, Haat Dikhate Jana” from this movie was pictureized with Ahsan Manzil in the backdrop. Singer Ahmad Rushdi, Music Robin Ghosh, Lyrics Akhter Yousuf, Actor Nadeem & Mirza Shahi.
Enjoy the 3.52 minutes long song where first 2 miniutes have scenes of Ahsan Manzil-

Extra Tips **Dhaka film industry produced 210 movies, 49 Urdu and 161 Bengali from 1956-71. Jago hua svera (1959) was the first Urdu film from Dhaka and Pail (1970) was the last released film.
