Therefore, all members of the Dhaka Nawab Family, wherever they may be, are being informed in advance that, God willing, as in previous years, the EID MILAN will be held, on the First Day after Eid-ul-Fitr, which is likely to be 14th or 15th October 2007. The news may kindly be conveyed, by word of mouth, to members of the Family living in Karachi, and around the world. This should help those living abroad and planning to visit Karachi to make their traveling plans accordingly.

The venue will be E/8 – 1, 4th Gizri Street, Phase IV, Defence Housing Authority – same venue as in earlier years, through the kind courtesy of Aliya and Nabil Tebawi and by kind permission of Murad and Baneen Mashooqullah, who live there.

Donations in cash or kind (Prizes for children and Lucky dip) are most welcome.

Members of the Family wishing to attend are requested to contribute Rs.200/- per couple, i.e. Rs.100/- per head. And all CHILDREN, above twelve years, as well as those irrespective of age, dependent on their parents, Rs.75/- per head.

Picnic 2007 – A memorable event!

July 23, 2007

Just got back from Nawabbaris annual 07 Picnic of NY.

An excellenty organized events and 99% of the credits goes to Khwaja Anas ( s/o KM Azziz, g/s/o of K Mussharaf) and his lovely wife Saniya ( d/o Khwaja Sajed ) who’s unconditional  support made Anas take responsibility for such a grandular event with ease. From the T-shirt with Nawabbari logo to Jhaal mori ( Apu baji’s speciality) deserved infinite wah wah! Before I start giving details  of the day, I woul like to thank:

Faraz ( S/o Syed Azizur Rahman of upsate NY ) who took time out from his busy summer season to join the picnic and take fabulas pictures. Please note that Faraz is one of the top photographers in NY who has won many international and national accolades and awards in photography. Inshallah, the photos will be available in few days. Then you can be the judge of his gifted eye and camera.

Our entreprenuer Saniya (w/o Anas) hosted/sponsered some games for the little dyke and and buddi mohtamas as well. Great prizes were awareded to all the winners and loosers as well. Where in the world you are awarded prizes when you loose a competition? The answer is Nawabbari! And By Nawabbarians! By the way, her company’s website is: http://www.raisastreasures.com . Please visit and refer to your friends/family.

Talal (s/0 late Khwaja Borhan and Zeenat Borhan), who has contributed over $200 worth of calling cards so that we nawabbarian can call back home to talk about the event! What a way of showing love for the family. Kya Baat hai! Also, the winning cricket team was awarded tons of cards as well. O Kya baat hai , again! Jawab nahi hai.

Sadat, Shahriar, Sahadat were the left , right and the middle hands of Anas. Without them Anas would have committed either sucide or murder while running around to collect chanda.

Thanks to Marjan, Sakeb and Dawar and Guria for arriving all the way from Pensylvania. Other than that, there were some visitors from Bangladesh and Pakistan ( Aziz Uncle and Maku Khala and Sara Khala)

Couldnt make: Khwaja Nadim Azher from Virginia and Syed Khwaja Omair of NY ( You guys dont know what you have missed…wait till you hear the stories and watch the pics!)

Finally here is a short narrative of the events:

July 17, 2007

Assalamualiakum everyone,

As you all know the DNF picnic is being held on July 22, 2007 (this Sunday) inshallah.  Lake Sebago Beach- Harriman State Park is the picnic location this year.  The beautiful sandy Lake Sebago Beach is surrounded by lawns, play fields and picnic areas.  It is the focal point of the entire area.  There are nets set up for volley ball and badminton along with a cricket field.  It is very very important that we get there early in order to reserve a good shady picnic spot.

It is recommended that each family brings their own sheets for sitting on the grass.  Please also bring extra clothes and towels for swimming.

For any other questions and comments we can be reaches at (917) 622-6993.  If you haven’t done so, please pay your picnic fees ASAP.

Designing with a purpose

July 8, 2007

Exhibition at Zainul Gallery
Fayza Haq

Not for sale” was a recent exhibition of nine young graphic designers at Zainul Gallery.

The artists included Rakibul Ahsan, Azaml Uddin Palash, Farjana Ahme, Farzana Khondoker, Pavel Rahman, Abul Hasnat, Khademul Mushfeque Jahan, Rudaba Mohsin and Maksuda Rahman. They are all students of the Institute of Fine Arts of University of Dhaka, who wished to draw the attention of the viewer to the fact that their work included art and not just commercial work.

The poster art highlighted Bangladeshi monuments in poster colours in another section. Rakib depicted Ahsan Manzil, Paharpur and Lalbagh Fort, in three circles all done on one single sheet of paper. There were friezes both at the top and bottom of the composition. The exhibition was indeed an absorbing one.

Election of June 30 2007: MAWT

July 8, 2007

kmsayeed.jpgkmmotahar.jpgThe result of the Moulvi Abdullah Welfare Trust has been announced. K.M.Motahar (327 votes), K.M.Amjad (324 votes) and K.M.Sayeed (308 votes) have been elected members of the Board of Trustees for the next five years. Songsod played a major role again for the winning candidates. The loosing contestants were Nana (s/o Nazimuddin), K.M.Tabrez (s/o K.M.Modassar), K.M.Iqbal (s/o Ladla Mia) and Rehan (s/o Kaneez Begum).  Earlier two seats fell vacant as K.M.Motahar and K.M.Shaker completed their 5 year term.  The bye election was held for the 3rd seat as S.Rehan Bakht resigned 26 months earlier than his term. Only two temporary clubs were erected this time and there were less enthusiasm among the voters. May be the reason is MAWT is no longer a money making machine while Haji Selim is absconding.

On a side note, the outcome of the election proves something to be worried about. Most of the voter family member prioritizes proximity of family relationship above all other criteria. How come the voters forget the experience of the Gulshan Ara City so early?
